APC Confirmation: A Journey of Faith
Confirmation at the Allentown Presbyterian Church is designed for students in 9th grade or above and meets on Sunday mornings from 9:45am-10:45am at Crossroads.
The word confirm, comes from the Latin word confirmare, which means “to strengthen.” It is our prayer that spending time in Confirmation class will strengthen not only a student’s faith in Jesus Christ but also their desire to become active in the life of the Allentown Presbyterian Church.
According to Big God Big Questions; Confirmation for a Growing Faith, Confirmation is “an act of covenant renewal that includes 3 parts:
- God confirms a youth’s baptismal identity as a child of God
- The youth confirms their faith in Jesus Christ and the teachings of the church
- Emphasize that Confirmation is not graduation from church, but a step in their faith journey and the entry point into full participation at APC.
Our focus on preparing youth for Confirmation (part 2) will happen on Sunday mornings with these three goals in mind: 1) provide rich spiritual soil to nourish a personal relationship with God; 2) offer lessons that bring out a student’s voice, faith, experience; 3) emphasize that Confirmation is not graduation from church, but the entry point into full participation at APC.
